Glass Jar Exchange

We freeze our foods in glass jars because plastic is potentially quite harmful, especially for babies. Rather than risk the leaching of harmful compounds into our foods, we are setting up a glass jar exchange and hoping that our customers will join in!
Simply rinse your food jars and lids once they're empty. They can be returned to us when we deliver your next order or you can drop them off at Sweet Peas Natural Market at 25 West Center Street in Logan, Utah.
For each returned jar, you can purchase a new jar of food for $1.50!

Hello! I am VERY interested in your foods. I regularly make home-made food for my 10-month-old son. I've been freezing his food in ice cube trays, but as his appetite increases it seems silly to be freezing such little portions. I've thought about freezing food in baby food jars but recently read that "Baby food jars are not manufactured for freezing or for extreme heating. Glass that is not specifically manufactured for freezing has the unfortunate ability to crack, leave behind tiny, microscopic shards and fragments and also is prone to bursting." (http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/FreezePage.htm)

Are you confident that your foods that are frozen in glass are 100% safe for baby?

Thanks for your time and your efforts - you provide a wonderful service!

Hi there,
Thanks so much for your interest and your question!
I was also a little worried about freezing food in glass jars and I did a lot of research before I gave it a try. According to the website for Kerr jars, these 4oz quilted glass jelly jars are intended for either canning or freezing. I have been freezing foods in them for several months now and have had no troubles with breakage, (I've even dropped a few and thought, "Well, so much for that one", but they haven't cracked at all). I am confident that this is the safest way to store baby food. As long as we're careful with them, we can continue to sterilize them and use them over and over, which is another wonderful way to keep the earth lovely for our little ones!
Here is one website that describes the jelly jars and says that they are made for freezing: http://www.freshpreserving.com/products/ball__regular_mouth__4_oz__quilted_crystal_glass_jelly_preserving_jars/26.php?page_id=19

I hope this helps!
